old stove door chair

Those of you who have met us at Art Shows throughout the Southeast, in Ohio and in Kansas have seen the unique art form which is Yellow Dog Enterprises.

Joe Dumas is the artist responsable for the rock and iron benches and tables as well as beautiful trellises. He has joined two natural products, metal and stone, to make pieces of functional art to last a life time.

Just as there are no two sunsets or rainbows exactly alike, there are no two benches exactly the same. Joe lets the shape, color and size of the stone guide him in forming each individual piece.

Imagin being able to visualize just the way the metal should flow to hold the stone and weave together, the support for the chair, the tilt of the back for comfort and the look for timeless pleasure.

The eye of an artist and the workmanship of a true craftsman, that’s what you get from Yellow Dog.

Browse through our gallery of products and picture a perfect place made complete. Visit our friends and meet the dogs Joe named our company for and a few benches in some special places at the homes of some of our friends and finish off with a look at our calendar to see when we may be close to you.

About The Artist Grandpa was a contractor and master cabinet maker whose family migrated from Demark, he believed in hard work. Joe was raised with a strong work ethic helping Grandpa on many projects. Learning to make the very tools he needed and how to build things that would last a lifetime or more, these are the skills Joe uses in the creation of his art. The vision is all Joe’s unique and whimsical blend of natural components function and fun. Growing up in Salt Lake City along the Wasatch mountain range, Joe saw the beauty of the rocks, with his association with blacksmiths throughout his life, he learned the strength and durability of both. Forging the metal and watching the glow as a piece was turned to the right angle in the fire and then to turn hard with the billowing clouds of stem as it was plunged in the water. The perfect piece of stone tilted and supported by the metal becomes a one of a kind functional sculpture that surprises and delights. oe has been building benches, chairs, tables, trellises and so many other marvelous things. He loves sharing his talent with others. Yellow Dog Enterprises is named for our yellow labs, Beauregard U. Rascal, Sweet Maggie Mae, Amber Muffin and Foxie Roxie who all share in the creations.
